Two More Restaurants Coming to Sherman Oaks' Restaurant Row
Fed up with the rowdy sports bar scene, owner Richard DiSisto (Tipple & Brine, Tunnel Bar, Lucy’s 51) closed Mad Bull's Tavern a few months ago to make way for his latest concept: Murph's Service Station. "That bull was on steroids," he says, now looking to attract a very different crowd into Murph's, a throwback to Americana and late-'40s, postwar good times.

Murph’s Service Station Serves Up Vanilla Rum Floats and Cake Cocktails
Richard DiSisto, owner of Tipple & Brine and Tunnel Bar, continues his Sherman Oaks reign of improvements with his third effort Murph’s, which opens Monday in the former Mad Bull’s Tavern space. Unlike Mad Bull’s, a sports bar with 32-ounce “bull-sized” cocktails and a dozen TVs, Murph’s is going for a simpler, more focused approach. “Straight-up, stripped-down Americana. I didn’t want to overcomplicate it,” said DiSisto.

Murph’s, Another Cocktail Feather in The Valley’s Cap
As if the lower Valley needed any more help, what with The Gadarene Swine carrying the high-end vegan banner in Studio City, welcome Murph's to the 818. Opening September 15 next to owner Richard DiSisto's other gems, Tipple & Brine and Tunnel Bar, this restaurant will have chef Mike Williams at the kitchen's helm. In addition, Christopher Day (Honeycut, Tipple & Brine) is preparing the cocktail menu here, which features something like the River Tam, made with bianco tequila, habanero syrup, ginger, lime and soda.

Murph’s Review
Sherman Oaks has just gotten a lot cooler with the inception of Richard DiSisto’s latest offering, Murph’s, (14649 Ventura Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 91403; 818.986.9999) a casual dining and old-school watering hole designed like an old-fashioned gas station/garage. If this helps, let’s just say it has the feel of a place where you might find a guy named Murph.
